Organic compounds and organically grown produce are not the same things.
Organic:
adjective
1) noting or pertaining to a class of chemical compounds that formerly comprised only those existing in or derived from plants or animals, but that now includes all other compounds of carbon.
2) characteristic of, pertaining to, or derived from living organisms: i.e. organic remains found in rocks.
3) of or relating to an organ or the organs of an animal, plant, or fungus.
4) of, relating to, or affecting living tissue: organic pathology.
5) Psychology. caused by neurochemical, neuroendocrinologic, structural, or other physical impairment or change: organic disorder. ========================================
Organic and organically grown are commonly used interchangeably but they are not the same.
I know. Language pollution.
Where I grew up in the 50s and 60s, the farmers had manure spreaders, pulled behind a tractor. You didn't want to go near them.
When I moved out here, the first time I ever heard the term "organic" was from an urban-hippie farmer (gardener). I asked: "It's grown with petroleum based pesticides?" He was aghast.
I guess he flunked chemistry.
Now I like to use it to tweak "organic" people.
