Unlike sugar from fruit “HFCS and cane sugar have been shown to drive inflammation, which is associated with an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. In addition to inflammation, excess fructose may increase harmful substances called advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which may harm your cells. Fructose IS "sugar from fruit". Sucrose is cane/beet sugar. Table sugar is a mixture of the two.
This narrative sounds like it comes from the artificial sweetener lobby.

I use organic cane sugar. I find nothing wrong with it in moderation.

It’s not a question of fructose or sucrose. The issue here is “refined”. By refined I mean heated and/or other catalysts added. For instance bleaching cane sugar to make it white. Or refining corn with enzymes such as alpha-amylase and D-xylose isomerase added in order to convert some of its glucose into fructose. Pure cane sugar is simply squeezed from the cane and dried. What’s left over is the sugar crystals.
