LP, Though not an Old Crow I am an old SWO, please add me to your list.
On a different note, and in response to an undersea slide between you and OWB:
I got to spend a week on a sub many years ago. One night I was having a dream that I was in a coffin. In that nebulous time between sleeping and waking my left hand touched the side of the bunk and my right hand hit the bottom of the bunk above. It was dark and my gradually awaking self was really thinking that I was in a coffin. Needless to say that was disconcerting. I began thrashing around and finally my right hand hit the rack curtains, tore them open, and I reached out and touched the cool deck. I was in the bottom rack. I looked out saw the green linoleum appearing very dark in the red light of the compartment, and realized I was on a submarine. Relieved, I went right back to a most peaceful sleep.
It was only later after many years, that the bigger picture dawned on me. Perhaps that’s why I so enjoyed looking at the horizon and the the view of the night stars from the bridge wing.
Always enjoy your posts. VR/pat
Boy were you lucky getting a bottom bunk. But if the red light was on you probly had watch duty in four hours. And they usually make visitors sleep on a torpedo-—or between two?
