Frankenstein-like experiments on children - and large swathes of the Western world think this is perfectly OK. The rest of the world shudders in revulsion at Western values these days, and rightly so.

Could you imagine someone doing this just ten years ago? They’d be arrested and charged with probably manslaughter, child abuse and a host of medically specific crimes.

Mutilation similar in many ways to that described in the works of Marquis de Sade, byname of Donatien-Alphonse-François, Comte de Sade, a notorious revolutionary who was much too twisted to be of any real use to the very worst elements of the French Revolution. His name was the basis for the sexual perversion known as sadism, but what he described went far beyond that rather narrow definition.
These frankly experimental surgeries are performed under perhaps somewhat more sanitary conditions, and usually with anesthetic drugs, but the power and control over the helpless remain as virulent as ever. This is as much a sickness of the part of unethical medical professionals involved as it is of the patient.
