My dad was in an AC&W outfit on Okinawa during the first part of the Korean War. He told me how they would pick something up on radar that either moved faster than remotely possible, or that would be stationary/loafing along and require a fighter to be vectored onto the blip.
In 1950, a lot of pilots already had some WWII experience and were pretty cool customers, but when something would begin to fly parallel with them and then zip off into the horizon in the blink of an eye, some of them would get a little excited. Dad was bemused by how the pilots were supposedly told at debriefing that it was all in their heads or an optical illusion when guys sitting in front of screens basically "saw" it too.
I guess Tucker and "Mush" never knew about any of these sightings by pilots, law enforcement and all kinds of people beyond repute. Must have skipped their minds. Poor tucker he gets int he presence of supposed royalty and freezes up,sad sad.
