I’ve always said that if you want to instigate misery, unrest, civil war in some poor benighted country, the first thing you do is call the IMF. I’m serious. (See, for example Syria. Periodic crackdowns by the IMF on Ukraine for such things as heating subsidies caused protests there from time to time. I could make a very long list.)

The BRICS formed their own alternative to the IMF in 2014, the NDB (New Development Bank), but it’s well, still in development. For now the IMF is your Daddy, Pakistan.
