I’m interviewing consultants for my 2024 race for Florida’s 22nd Congressional District.

Last night, I had a long call with one from a major Republican consulting firm - I won’t share the name of the firm out of respect.

He told me that the best strategy for me would be moving away from Trump while also not being obvious about it.

He said I should sidestep any questions about Trump and refuse to endorse him. He said that would hurt me with small donors but I’d be able to pump in big donors and PAC money.

Let me tell you that it was at that very moment I paused the conversation and let this man know that if it was not for Donald J. Trump running in 2016 that I wouldn’t even be running for Congress.

When Donald Trump came down that escalator, I was not a fan. To be honest, I wasn’t even a Republican.

It was hearing Donald Trump’s plans for America that made me a Republican.

When Donald Trump said that Black Americans needed to rise up and take their own communities back because “What the Hell did we have to lose?” I heard that and I knew he was speaking to people like me.

So many Black people heard that too and took that to heart.

So now I’m supposed to throw Donald Trump under the bus for some money and run as a person I’m not?

Excuse my language, but there ain’t no way in Hell I will do that!

My name is Lavern Spicer and I didn’t come this far in life to be told that I have to sell my soul and denounce a man that I truly admire to please some big corporate donors.

Screw that and screw the fools who think like that.

I love Donald Trump and I’m going to keep loving him. Periodt.
