King Charles laid a black and red wreath with the inscription "In everlasting remembrance" and the Queen Consort Camilla laid a white rose on the steps beside it.

They were accompanied by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on a state visit that has sought to acknowledge the past but commit to a stronger future partnership.

The roofless church is now only a skeleton of its former self, but it had been designed by the English architect, George Gilbert Scott.

The same architect had designed the Albert Memorial in London, built in honour of the King's German ancestor Prince Albert.

There’s one or two Freepers on this site who actually know Charles. Know him from previous stints in UK Commonwealth Armed Forces. In the 1960s-1970s Charles was a RN Naval officer and had various UK, Commonwealth & NATO assignments. That’s where they got to know him. According to them much of what you think you know about Charles (with one exception!) is dead wrong. It’s all created by the UK press and amplified by the US press. The only thing that separates Charles attitudes and views from this group is his over-the-top environmentalism. I don’t think they are lying. They could be but I don’t think so. The fact the press (UK & USA) have done this is completely believable. More believable then thinking these Freepers are lying.

Be that as it may I've never had any use for the English monarchy. We chased them out of here twice so we could have a country. We bailed them out of two world wars, both of which involved members of my family in two of them. They were brutal to the point of genocidal to my Irish ancestors, so much so as to compel them to leave the Emerald Isle(which I suppose I should be grateful) and they yap about some ''special relationship'', what ever that is. But that's their system, their heritage. They're welcome to it. I can do without hearing about.
