Living in an open carry legal state, it’s always a good idea.
When we sailed into port here in Alaska (From Hawaii), one of the first people we met was the wife of the local police chief. He asked if we had guns and took us out to the range for a day of shooting.
At the end of the day, after seeing what we had to carry and satisfying himself that we could do so without shooting ourselves in the foot, he told us to be sure to "Carry always".
I hasten to add: NOT because of people.
