Canucks, sometimes Crazy Canucks after our alpine skiing antics in the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t think either are official but it’s how we refer to ourselves.

I wasn't sure if Canucks was considered derogatory or not. Years and years ago, I was in a department that took orders from the US as well as different countries. Most were sent in by fax, but some still made phone calls to place orders. I once got a call from a guy in Newfoundland. He called himself a "goofy Newfie". LOL

If I remember my high school history accurately, I think we were founded as One Dominion Under the Name of Canada, later shortened to Canada.

Ah, never heard of the long name before. Thanks!

Canucks is not derogatory at all. I’m surprised you could understand the “goofy Newfie”. I was born in Gander, Newfoundland, and I know that the accent and dialect can make it nearly impossible to understand them. Here’s a 9 minute Newfie language lesson that you may find amusing:

And a 3-minute fun ‘tutorial’ on phrasing -

The Broadway stage play “Come From Away” chronicled the treatment of “the plane people” when 6700 passengers “from away” were grounded in Gander, Nfld., on September 11, 2001. The actors did a good job of capturing the locals’ speech and customs. As a group, there are no better people on the planet than Newfoundlanders, in my humble opinion. This short USA Today article from 2017 summarizes the 5 days the plane people spent in Gander:
