If that's the case, then anyone in North America, Central America, or South America could be called an American.
I read something a few years back that made sense to me. We are called Americans because the word America is in our official name: the United States of America. Mexico is officially the United States of Mexico, so they are Mexicans. Those in Canada are called Canadians. (LL, does Canada have an official name other than only Canada? I really don't know. All I've ever read or heard is Canada.)
YMMV

Canucks, sometimes Crazy Canucks after our alpine skiing antics in the 70’s and 80’s. I don’t think either are official but it’s how we refer to ourselves. If I remember my high school history accurately, I think we were founded as One Dominion Under the Name of Canada, later shortened to Canada.

Anyone from Europe is a European, people of Asia are Asians, Africa etc..."nationality" notwithstanding"

I shouldn’t have rushed my response. You were asking about the country and I responded by talking about the people. Apologies. No. Canada has no alternate name that I’m aware of. However, if Trudeau’s censorship policies and laws are all passed, it may be appropriate to start calling us Can’t-ada.
