Solar energy % is also lifted by a large amount by solar hot water systems, which have been being installed since way before I moved there in ‘91, and have been mandated for I think about 15 years. Not doing those in a cold snowy climate.

Plus the “cost of intermittency” talked about in the article is very important - you can't just shut down the petroleum generators. They have to be online and ready to back up the renewable at the instant the son is blocked by a cloud or the wind dies.
