Scientists Discover Intense Heatwaves Lurking at The Bottom of The Ocean
Science Alert (via MSN.com) ^ | 19 March 2023 | Clare Watson

Posted on 03/20/2023 3:21:15 AM PDT by zeestephen

In 2013, a monstrous marine heatwave known as "The Blob" developed off the coast of Alaska... At one point, a buoy bobbing atop the ocean near Oregon detected frightening jumps in temperature of up to seven degrees Celsius in less than an hour...We need to recognize that burning fossil fuels is pushing ocean ecosystems to their limits. With Earth's oceans having now absorbed about 90 percent of the excess heat from global warming, marine heatwaves like The Blob are 20 times more likely to happen.

I agree and add- Plate tectonics. A whole lot of heat must be generated from the friction of plates moving over each other.

And it is interesting that they wrap up this article by connecting and inferring that alleged human-caused global warming is the cause of these subsea heat waves. That the oceans are have somehow reached a limit on absorbing the our heat, leading to these heatsinks. That is an incredible overreach and just plain fearmongering. Consider that global warming fanatics are talking about less than a degree celsius to maybe one or two over the next 100 years. Yet they are currently identifying with just 30 years of extrapolated, not real direct data, newly identified hot spots that show, in one example, a 5 degree celsius change in hours, and do not eliminate other natural causes, like volcanos. This is agenda-driven garbage writing. As I said fearmongering over facts.

Are we just to take their word that the buoy is accurate and not dysfunctional?

That's exactly what the liars want. The eye is the brain's primary lie detector. Hiding climate change lies far out of sight has become necessary.

It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if it is found out at some point that the heat measuring devices were programmed to “read” higher temperatures than what the actual temperatures are

We know that on land, they place we devices in artifical hot spots, “artificial heat islands” like blacktop parking lots, next to air conditioners which pump out heat, etc.

She’s a liar too. The linked paper is nothing like her propaganda.

“the stronger spatial variation in BMHW average intensity compared to SMHW average intensity (comparing Fig. 2 and S3) is a further indication that bottom topography is critical in shaping the patterns described in this study. As a result, each LME would benefit from a dedicated focus aimed at diagnosing the unique physical drivers of BMHW events and how these mechanisms relate to different bathymetric features in the respective regions.”

ie - the variations in temperature are caused by the characteristics of the ocean itself especially the shape of the ocean floor.

People on this thread are confusing a reporter’s vomit with science.

If the quake happens now, they’ll say it’s because of climate change.

Yes, and maybe the influx of people to Guan will cause it to tip over.

Why do we need to determine the Ocean’s pronouns?

“We need to recognize that burning fossil fuels is pushing ocean ecosystems to their limits.”

Quite an extrapolation.

He’s something I didn’t know:

In Italian (including all Italian dialects) and Portuguese, the sea is strictly masculine: il mare (Sicilian: u mari, Venetian: el mar, Neapolitan: ‘o mare, Sardinian: su mari, Corsican: u mare) and o mar (the same for Galician); however in French and Romanian it is feminine: la mer and la mare.

Isn’t there such a thing as thermal vents in the ocean that spew heat from the earths core? Also in the Artic, there are ice vents under water that would freeze your hand to solid ice if you placed it over the vent? The center of the earth controls all that...we don’t. Also I always wonder why these “climate scientist” never talk about the volcanos and how much heat and gases they spew all the time. Seems to me they contribute much of to the earths weather?

it is the same except water is just far better at storing and conducting heat

Why do you miss his Saturday updates? He does them every week.

It’s sad when Michael Moore can’t go for a little dip in the ocean without being made fun of.

Recall in the late 90’s a high temperature ocean blob off Alaska and California they lasted for months and the great brains didn’t know why.

The weather guy wised them up it’s a stalled high pressure area.

And it went back to normal
Never let a fake crisis go to waste.

Similar to the question of:

My ass its "fossil fuels" doing this, y'know, assuming it's happening at all.

Panic Porn from a Partisan Media Shill and Stooge alert.

The failure of "greenhouse gases" to force up temperatures led in the 1980s and '90s to the ridiculous fiction that the heat was being stored, forced down to the seafloor where nobody could see it, and would eventually appear and melt all the icecaps, blah blah blah.

What actually happened, eventually, was the measurement of seafloor temperatures. Not surprising to anyone with a brain, the oceans were found to get colder and brinier with depth.

Obviously, because I don’t see them posted here on Freerepublic anymore. Someone used to post them every Saturday. For whatever reason, and I’m sure the poster had a valid one, it stopped. I would log into Weather Bell, but couldn’t find it for a while. Could be my bad but I can get it now. Are you having a problem with that?
