State Department cables warned of safety issues at Wuhan lab studying bat coronaviruses
Washington Post ^ | April 14, 2020 | Josh Rogin

Two years before the novel coronavirus pandemic upended the world, U.S. Embassy officials visited a Chinese research facility in the city of Wuhan several times and sent two official warnings back to Washington about inadequate safety at the lab, which was conducting risky studies on coronaviruses from bats.

In January 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing took the unusual step of repeatedly sending U.S. science diplomats to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which had in 2015 become China’s first laboratory to achieve the highest level of international bioresearch safety (known as BSL-4). WIV issued a news release in English about the last of these visits, which occurred on March 27, 2018. The U.S. delegation was led by Jamison Fouss, the consul general in Wuhan, and Rick Switzer, the embassy’s counselor of environment, science, technology and health. Last week, WIV erased that statement from its website, though it remains archived on the Internet.

What the U.S. officials learned during their visits concerned them so much that they dispatched two diplomatic cables categorized as Sensitive But Unclassified back to Washington. The cables warned about safety and management weaknesses at the WIV lab and proposed more attention and help. The first cable, which I obtained, also warns that the lab’s work on bat coronaviruses and their potential human transmission represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic.

“During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory,” states the Jan. 19, 2018, cable, which was drafted by two officials from the embassy’s environment, science and health sections who met with the WIV scientists. (The State Department declined to comment on this and other details of the story.)

Haven't you heard? It wasn't bats. It wasn't Pangolins, but it was Raccoon Dogs:

New data links Covid-19’s origins to raccoon dogs at Wuhan market

What's next?

Dr Redfield, who led the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention when the outbreak began in 2020, was an early proponent of the lab leak theory.

He told the House select subcommittee, formed by the new Republican majority in the US House of Representatives, it was “not scientifically plausible” to him that the virus had natural origins.

He claimed he was “sidelined” at the beginning of the pandemic and excluded from meetings as his views were not in line with other major scientists like Dr Fauci, the de-facto face of the US pandemic response.

“It was told to me that they wanted a single narrative, and that I obviously had a different point of view,” he said. “Science has debate and they squashed any debate.”

Dr. Fauci lied about his role at the virology lab in Wuhan. He should be in prison for the rest of his life. He had his chance to come clean in 2020. He never did that. He needs to be held accountable.

“This article was posted over 2 years ago”.

And people are still trying to argue that it was from a wet market.

Some people are ignorant, stupid, easily misled and generally gullible. When it comes to the Democrat agenda, their followers will follow them blindly, even to their own deaths.

No one is asking, let alone addressing, why are American tax dollars being funneled to China for research on viruses? But I think I know why. Just as mutually assured destruction is the deciding factor in preventing nuclear war, biowarfare is equally indiscriminate and will result in total death worldwide. But the US is treaty bound to not research biowarfare. So we secretly do it in areas that we can share findings with non-signatories, China and Russia (labs in Cina and Ukraine) so this knowledge is shared between potential adversaries. This explains Fauci in China and Putin’s charges (among other reasons)early on in his Ukraine invasion.

Why would we share research with China? I thought we were supposed to be enemies with China?

Because they must be assured that we do not have bioweapons superior to theirs and vice versa. Without this assurance all party’s suspicions will result in a bioweapons race akin to the nuclear arms race.

Makes sense. So not a bad thing. Until there’s an accident in one of the labs. Which is what happened in 2020. I think we should have been frank with the American public. We ****ed up. Instead, there was a cover up by Dr. Fauci and NIH. As a result, Joe Biden got elected. He took advantage of covid-19 pandemic and campaigned from his basement in Delaware.

And people are still trying to argue that it was from a wet market.

Maybe they picked up one of the animals from one of the wet markets and then took it inside the lab to study the coronaviruses they were doing the research on. Still, that's stretching the truth.
