Possibly however a couple of the victims family members were on tv recently commenting on how even after their divorce the ex-wife was constantly being unbelievably difficult when it came to shared custody of their children.

Something to consider anyway.

Fighting between exes over the care and custody of children can all too easily generate a motive for murder. Off hand, I can think of several such cases that I know of personally. If that was the motive here even in part, then, as you suggest, investigation will find evidence to such effect because that kind of lethal violence may appear sudden to outsiders but is often obvious as a motive to those who know the people involved.

If you are interested, take a look at the Dan Markel murder, one of the wilder and complicated such cases. Markel was a professor at FSU and was murdered by hired killers from south Florida because of a child custody dispute. The prosecutors have so far gotten convictions of the hit men and the intermediary and are working back to the ex-wife's family who paid for the murder.
