I think he requested to testify. Just so he could present that 600 pages.

Well that’s the puzzling part. Why would Bragg let him testify knowing it would likely hurt Bragg’s case? The most reasonable answer to that is New York is one of the jurisdictions in which exculpatory evidence MUST be presented to a GJ, and Bragg had to comply with the request to avoid destroying his own career completely.
The other possibility is that Bragg isn’t really in charge of this case and he’s being compelled to move forward with the case by White Hats. The result is that a known Trump hater and leftist in one of the most left cities in the nation just called a witness who exonerated PDJT in the eyes of the entire world. If a Trump supporter had done it, the left wouldn’t accept it. They must be apoplectic having to accept it from one of their own. The only question that remains is who was behind the whole charade?
You’re correct.
It was Trump’s attorneys who “requested” the witness Costello be made available to the GJ.
Generally, Grand Juries have to be informed by the DA of a request by the defense, to appear before the GJ.
The GJ has to then agree, or vote, to hear the witness for the accused.
That explains how Costello was let in with his case for Trump.
