Thank you. I am going to work on this. It will save me a bundle if I don’t need to pay for cable.
We had a Comcast “Triple Play” (Internet, Cable TV, and phone). We canned the cable and use either an AppleTV streaming box (main residence) and a Roku streaming box (vacation cabin). Both work really well and I cannot recommend one over the other.
One thing to watch out for is adding too many pay services. We have Amazon Prime (mainly for shipping) and Netflix. I added Hulu. We tried Peacock. I added YouTube Premium lately, but it is VERY expensive at $30/month, so I’ll probably drop that. But the price of the services can quickly add up to the old cable price.
We have Spectrum Internet at our vacation place. Spectrum offers a “TV Choice” streaming service where they provide something like 30 basic channels and you get to select another 10 from a menu list. You don’t have to use their cable service — just the streaming channels.
My wife mainly picked sports channels (8 of the 10) and I got TCM plus another movie channel for my two. The TV Choice package is very economical. We access the channels using the Spectrum app on the Roku box.
Good luck. The whole setup is easy and it is easy to use, too.
There are lots of free streaming content providers out there, too, but you have to put up with ads. I have a very low tolerance for ads, so I’d rather have some streaming service without ads. But watch that budget!
