From my Colt Commando CAR 15 firing, my Montagnards firing add two M60 machine guns plus our grenade launcher’s rounds blowing up and all kinds of incoming- nothing bothered my hearing.

I hear you, kinda lol. Was the same for me nothing really seemed to bother the hearing until the rpg hit a few feet from me. That rung my bell hard and my hearing kinda went with it.

Stateside, I was in artillery, 105mm. We had no ear\noise protection. The scuttlebutt was to buy a bottle of aspirin, use the cotton at the top of the bottle to plug your ears then take the aspirin after the fire mission. My hearing is whacked and it's in my SRB medical records as such.V.A. provided the hearing aids and I'm good to go.
That said, I use ear muffs.
