The fad passing through the Marine Corps in 1968 was announcing through a PA system that "If you can't tap dance, you're queer".

That would cause the whole base to start tap dancing wherever they were.

We had a whole formation, all ready for a Commanding General's inspection, dissolve into mayhem when that announcement went out - men in Dress Blues, with weapons, all tapdancing at once.

The general wasn't amused.
