We aren’t dying on Ukrainian hills or fields; Ukrainians are. We are supporting them, because the alternative is fighting over NATO countries and fighting China.
LOL - we both know it was a metaphor...
That said, since I respect your ideas and we’re so far apart on this issue, let me explain where I’m coming from... There are countries worth dying for - the first two that come to mind are Great Britain and Israel. There are others. Then there are countries worth protecting for our own interest... places close to us like Canada. I’m not a total isolationist.
What about Ukraine?
Ukraine’s important for elites - elites in Ukraine and elites in the US and Europe. It’s not important for everyday American citizens.
From the people’s point of view Ukrainians living under their current corrupt government or living under an equally corrupt Russian government is a toss up. Their neighbors might want to protect them ... or not. That’s NOT a hill to die on...
What’s not OK in this situation is for the Ukrainian people to live in a war zone for years.
Tell me how different it would be for ‘the people’ of Ukraine to live under their usual corrupt government or under Putin’s corrupt government? My guess is not much different. Not different enough for us to spend billions of dollars to protect a place for ‘elites’ to launder their money.
