When I was visiting there I caught some slack about Haoles. I asked what the Hawaiian slang for Japanese was.

Chinese = pake
Filipino = manong
Portuguese = portagee or pocho
White = haole
White trash = pilau haole
Black = popolo
Hawaiian = kanaka

Being called haole is an observation. Being called pilau haole is an insult.
