With King Charles' Coronation just weeks away, the Palace is scrambling to secure big-name musicians to perform on the big day.
The whole idea of royalty and coronations in 2023 is absurd, but if you're going to do it, why try so desperately to turn your events into PR opportunities for pop stars?
I wasn't alive then, but I don't remember reading about Frank Sinatra crooning at Queen Elizabeth's coronation. I also don't remember Duran Duran or Simple Minds at the Charles-Diana wedding.

Rock did not exist during the late Queen’s Coronation in 1953, but she did host concerts for her Golden, Diamond, and Platinum jubilees.

It looks like they tried to get Brits to perform. I think Diana was a fan of the Spice Girls.
As I understood it, Diana liked rock music and Charles didn’t. So why not invite the London Philharmonic?
