Keepin up with the greenies:
A) Amonia/No good
B) R-22/ No good
c) R-410/ No good
D) You’ll have no cooling and be happy
My brother manufactures F-gases, and then vents with harmony.
Heat pumps generally work well in Southern climates where extreme cold isn’t a thing. For overnight lows in the 40s, it works well.
BUT... When it gets really cold, like below freezing and towards zero, they are much less efficient, and really suck up a lot of wattage.
I live in South Alabama and have two heat pump/air conditioners as I have a large, sprawling house with just my son. This Christmas, we had a week of extreme cold weather (for this area), and my electric bill was over $700. Never again!
I bought a couple of portable heaters for the rooms my son and I stay in and let the rest be cold, if it happens again!
—”The good news for you is 410 will be around for awhile yet. But it’s madness.”
R-410A is scheduled for elimination from all new systems in 2023 and the price is going to the moon!
410 was called PURON, no problems, good forever...
When my 1995 R-22 system started to lose refrigerant I topped it off with R-290 until I could get the heat pump running. R-290 is extra dry propane, BBQ propane can possibly have a tiny bit of water that will freeze and plug the expansion valve/orifice.
A European company is producing a heat pump with NO MOVING PARTS! It USES SOUND WAVES!!! https://t.ly/8QiZ
I want one, After the price comes down.
Like the English TV tax/license police, Big Brother will be checking utility bills for signs of ANY TYPE of air conditioning.
The penalties start at six months on the wheel of pain generating electricity for the better people.
The better people need AC to take better care of the proles.
—”way back when I was a kid used ammonia as the refrigerant.”
A friend used to collect old ammonia refrigerators with the beehive and globe on the top.
—”Yep - heat pumps are actually pretty decent, but once it gets near the mid-20s, they can’t do the job...then we pay for the electric heating elements...”
Like fast cars, each year brings improvements.
My heat pump is rated for minus 13F, and we had three days of -13 at Christmas my heat worked OK and does NOT have any electric resistance heaters.
“These Pioneer mini split heat pumps are built to withstand even the most freezing temperatures, all the way down to -13°F outside.” This is what I have: https://t.ly/_pZX
A middle-of-the-road model.
I installed a separate electric meter to record the usage.
22 Dec 20.05 KWh,
23 Dec 29.02 KWh,
24 Dec 21.5 KWh
At $00.164/KWh natural was at $3.00/Therm, but now at $1.60/Therm.
The better ones like my son-in-law has, are good for minus 40F: https://t.ly/R9_e
If your house is poorly insulated it will not work unless WAY oversized.
YES!
See#24
Ground water heat pumps.
Technically yes. Nine women can have one baby a month for nine months…
Yep. Big 30% cut in allowed F-gas production and consumption next year !
Next big cut comes 5 years after that.
Sooner if the mad dems regain control.
Problem is their Deep State doesn't care about that any more than ours does.
