I have Mowbray/de Mowbray in my family line...Elizabeth Mowbray who married William Gascgoine goes back to John De Mowbray...also Robert the Bruce via his daughter Maud. All of these older connections are based on Ancestry.com hints, which may or may not be factual, so I take it all with a grain of salt. There was no family history on either parent’s side past my great-grandparents. My grandparents were all dead when I was born in 1947, and neither parent knew of their ancestry, so I basically started from scratch. Over 20 years ago I hired a researcher in Holland to go back 6 or 7 generations on my father’s side in Holland. They were mostly farmers and laborers. My mother’s side is the longer of the two trees.
“I have Mowbray/de Mowbray in my family line”
Well your the third one on this site that is blood relative to me.
But, like I said, the Mowbray lineage is questionable. My Cousin is working on it.
As far as ancestry sites? Not to be trusted totally. Lots of mistakes, but they are very good for outlines and initial research.
I found a HECK of a lot of information on community historical record sites. Things like township meetings and such...Deed Records, Court documents like trusts and will probates.
