In Pennsylvania, a replacement senator is appointed by the governor, and only serves until the next general election. Maybe Aug 18 is this year’s filing date.
If Fetterman is still alive, how could he be forced out if he doesn’t want to go? Or if he even can’t make that choice? Maybe the Senate could vote to remove him. Then waiting until after the 2023 PA election would make sense.

I heard that the next election in PA is 11/7/2023, so if a replacement is made before the August 18th filing date, then there is a election.
The more troubling thing is that the Dems will vote for him until his “depression is cured” thanks to COVID so he essentially never needs to recover.
