Cut the cord and kicked directv to the curb last year and did my research for a streaming service.
After comparing plans, prices and content I settled on fubotv.
While I was happy for a while fubo just forced a regional sports network (RSN) package on my plan that I can't opt out of and used it as an excuse to jack up my monthly fee by $30......that's the end of fubotv as soon as the next billing cycle is up.
I'm leaning towards youtube tv.....anyone have thoughts or suggestions?
The only reason I keep cable (for now) is Svengoolie on MeTV. Otherwise, there’s plenty of free stuff on Youtube (just install a good adblocker), sent to TV via Chromecast. I also have the Roku TV and I can access a lot of free streaming services, I just keep the remote handy to mute the awful awful awful commercials.
yeah ive goen back and forth over the smart tv’s - the ones ive seen don’t have good strong blacks and fade out when seen at an angle- the old dumb tv liek we have has strong colors and deep blacks, and is good at any angle- - but it is limited compared to what we ‘could do’ with a smart TV-
The dumb tv we have weighs abotu 100 or so lbs lol- it’s huge- another setback- got a backup dumb tv taking up a bunch of room too-
“I’ve read that you can play the recording and use video capture to save to a PC but I’m just not that smart.”
Locate a Hauppauge! HD PVR or similar and have at it. They’re fairly simple to use and editing out the extraneous crap is somewhat time consuming.
Do her recorded shows not air anywhere else? Are they on DVD?
Hubby had that issue, too, when we (finally) cut the cord, a while back.
He hasn’t missed ONE of these DVRd programs. Between yootube, Rumble, streaming channels, you can find most of the stuff you have on the DVR.
Good luck!
I like the Visio, but I’m not an expert.
I’ve got a lil’ 40” dumb TV in my bedroom that I never turn on. It gets dusted once a week when the rest of the furniture gets dusted. At least it’s light. I should probably give it away.
I have looked into numerous streaming services but, as there’s nothing I want to watch on any of them, dropped the idea.
Yes there is a lot of wisdom in that
My friend I believe MeTV is free all over the place.
I pick it up with my over the air HD antenna.....and I’m pretty sure I saw it on TUBItv......if you have smart tv you can add their app and get it there.
“Wow .... no sports .... no locals .... no thank you.”
Are you referring to youtube tv?
I have only one comment
Compared to regular TV with all the control in the hands of the viewer...;
STREAMING SUCKS!
Unless I am dong something wrong.
Fubotv sucks that’s for sure. Touting themselves as the premier sports streaming service, during the world cup championship game they allowed their platform to get hacked and I had to rely on my $50 over the air antenna to watch it, same deal with the superbowl.....the signal sucked so bad I had to go to my antenna again.....and THEN they jack up my bill by $30??? .......F that noise.
When I canceled my subscription online their website asked for feedback on why I was cancelling.......whoever reads that in for a shock.
Yeah I’m not up on smart tvs either. I’ll have to research it mor. What co cerns me is the “viewing angle” as our living room is kinda spread our, so some members of fam will have a not so good view if the viewing angle isn’t good.
Oled tvs have excellent deep blacks/contrast, and great viewing angles, but are pretty expensive
Good for you.
In my opinion, streaming is WORSE than early TV must have been.
Someone with money and power should duplicate DirecTV and they would make a fortune.
DirecTV WITHOUT THE PREJUDICE, OF COURSE.
Yes. (Sorry for the delay)
Otherwise......me....at home....or, anyone else’s house....
There are a couple that we can’t find ANYWHERE. We’ve tried. Hence the sticking point.

I have a family member who claims that if you use Roku, you let WiFi into the house. I am a total moron about Hi Tech, so I don’t even know what he means.
I just enjoy the freedom of the hateful DirecTV, you can’t back it up, you can’t move forward, and when the Ads come on, you are a prisoner for the same six ads, over and over and over again. Plus you get info about the actors in movies and shows by a flick of the remote with Direct, That all is very nice. I loved all the recorded shows from Newsmax. And now, it’s gone.
Now, we only use Prime/Fire, maybe it will get better as I learn more.
