Both of my grandmothers were believers in the three food groups: salt, sugar and lard. Sadly, their intake of these deadly items ensured that their lifespans were cut to the mid- and upper nineties... and regrettably, their cooking was generally delicious.
If they had only cut out or reduced all the salt, sugar and lard, they both could have lived to be 200 and made food that nobody wanted to eat. Tragic!
There are actually five basic food groups: salt, sugar, fat, caffeine and chocolate. Doughnuts fill most of those food groups.
Sorry to hear about the early demise of your Grammas. Maybe they could have taken up smoking? My own quackass doctor always tells me I should cut back on salt. I tell him to stuff it. I remind him I’m in better shape than he is and his job is to outlive me. We have a good laugh. He signs off on my pilot’s physical and I go on my way.
Heh. I'd rather live fast, die young (not to mention, well-fed), and leave a good-looking corpse. :-)
