When I went to Bangkok in 1987, we stayed at the Hilton in Nai Lert Park.
There were mostly women in my group, and we had a free afternoon to shop or do whatever on our own.
My roommate and I walked from the hotel to a department store several blocks away and on the return
discovered a fenced off area in the back of the hotel parking lot.
Found the area to be a shrine to the goddess Tuptim (fertility) with a display of phallic symbols.
A year or so later, I read about the supposedly auto-erotic death of David Carradine in what I think was the Hilton Nai Lert Park.
Always wondered if there was some kind of connection.
Correction: Apparently, Carradine didn’t die until 2009.
