I’ve seen a couple of shows like that — “ripped from the headlines”. Terrible. Deliberately sabotaging a child’s future career, success, etc. Selfish.
There are deaf people who want Cochlear implants banned because of the threat to “deaf culture”, mostly impacting children. It’s criminal to keep handicapped children handicapped.
