What's going to happen when a plane goes through that acid rain?

If an aluminum skinned plane flies thru an acid soaked cloud, especially if there is an element of hydrochloric acid in it, and it is not cleaned immediately, it will first turn black, then start to smoke, then start to disappear. In a severe case the fumes could burn out the pilot and then who knows what’s next. But fumes off HCL soaked AL are very stinky.

And, Oh, yeah, almost forgot. The next train Norfolk Southern runs into East Palestine needs to be carrying “16 tons” of baking soda. From the apparent size of that cloud the whole place needs to be neutralized. That acidic residue will damage everything it lays on. To compare in a simple example think about the old days when we might have heated tomato sauce in an aluminum pan. Tomato sauce, being acidic , has destroyed millions of aluminum pans.

Anybody who whiffed that snot needs to be health-monitored for quite some time. It’s nasty. The eyes are particularly susceptible.
