Re Sea Chest:

Interesting. The ship’s sea chest balanced and cooled the ship and a sailor’s sea chest contained personal items that kept him balanced and calm. I never knew ships has one.

Do they still call the place sailors store their belongings a sea chest on modern ships? Or a locker? .

They're lockers. A locker is a generic name for any place you keep something.

There are many different types of lockers, Paint lockers, small arms lockers, and the place you never want to be, the hurt locker.

One more tidbit on that whole “sea chest” question: ships that run on steam turbines have really big ones usually called the “main coolant sea chest.” Nukes use a lot of seawater for their condenser. And if they sit dockside , shut down for awhile, it becomes a “fish chest.”
