Wouldn’t that guideline apply only if lives were in danger by an attacker?
The shooter is being protected in order to protect the storyline that the whole thing was Trump’s fault.

I should think that language makes it quite clear that I think Ashley Babbitt was murdered; that the man who killed her was completely unjustified in discharging his weapon at all, and that I find him to be a contemptible person.

I don't like him. Never did, never will. He is a type of person I don't trust and would not willingly work with or for. If you don't like that, that's your personal problem and you'll just have to deal with it.
Voting is a separate matter and has nothing to do with liking a person: I voted for him in November 2016 and again in November 2020. Even donated to his 2020 campaign.
If you can't figure that out, that's also your personal problem that you'll have to deal with.
