I have offered to pay for her to have home health and also to bring her here so I could work with her. I was told by someone I trust currently the rehab equipment she needs is more advanced than they can do at home and would require two people - she needs several sessions a day too. Supposedly if she goes home now, without intensive PT, she will likely not be able to walk again.
She is pretty much paralyzed from the waist down plus one arm. They are trying to get her to a point where she can assist in her own positioning and it should take three weeks. I could not live like she is living for three weeks, my DH had to walk out it was that bad, and nearly threw up in the parking lot. He said if it were me, he would have me out of there in a heartbeat.
I did find another place that I am told is better, trying to get her moved. Got a referral from someone who knows facilities and she said that this one should be shut down.
BIL called tonight but the admissions person had left, he was told to call first thing in the morning.
The step down from this will be home PT and probably a full time caregiver.
She just moved there yesterday, but I’m pretty concerned about her mental/emotional health at this point. She has been fighting so hard, but she was holding back tears today and seemed defeated. She said a person next door screamed all night long. Her hair was one big mat in the back, it took me over an hour to comb it out, and she is filthy. I offered to wash her hair and sponge bathe her but she declined. She was wearing borrowed clothes. She has no curtain for privacy - they have three beds crammed in a room about 10 x 10. She has no call button, no TV (there is one in the room but facing the other roommates) so she has no choice in what is blaring all day.
God bless you, all.
Praying this new facility will be the answer to prayers.
