Some of the alleged victims were as young as 13, according to the warrant. One of Chasing Horse’s wives was allegedly offered to him as a “gift” when she was 15, while another became a wife after turning 16.
None of this is out of place in Native American culture. I worked with a fellow from Tinker AFB who was a mix of a couple of tribes but his wife was twelve when they began and fourteen, I think , when they wed. His brother, still at Tinker, wife was about as old when they married. Both guys were about 20 when they and their wives began.
I would just call culturally proper for his tribe.
As native tribe tended to marry off women/girls very young and many wife’s was a thing of status.
Women were treaded and property.
