The truth remains. In any respectable discipline, the Ph.D. represents successful completion of a much more rigorous program of study and original research than a mere MD.
Deal with it.
Medical doctors are practitioners. You want them doing the surgery. When it comes to generating knowledge, doing research, you want Ph.D's even if it is medical or drug research. Look at all the editors of the New England Journal and see all the M.D. Ph.D's and those with just the Ph.Ds in statistics. Same with the reviewers at the journal. Your research wouldn't get through the first review without a statistician as an author.
