How do we know that’s not just a laptop? When I’ve seen pictures of the “football” in the past, it’s been a more rigid shape and had a hard handle and brass clips to close it. I SOOO want that to be the nuclear football because of all that would imply, but that bag looks like a floppy laptop case. I concede that the brass closures could be on the inside next to his leg, but the handle looks wrong.
Automatic weapons would be one guess.
A personal friend in a combat arms branch of the US Army served multiple tours in Viet Nam. He was essentially rewarded after demobilizing by being assigned to diplomatic protective services in the US Embassy in Paris, France, during the peace talks. He carried a briefcase with an automatic weapon. It was a type of mini machine gun.
During an appearance by GWB, in Grand Rapids MI, a day after he had delivered the State of the Union Address, a vehicle convoy passed by my fixed position- curbside. I noted the USSS vehicles with much interest, observing a black Suburban pass by with the back window down and a crew served weapon pointing to the rear. It was a Vulcan-type mini gun.
