The tips suggested can easily be more than the restaurant makes in profit. Ten % was once customary then 15% then more and more. All the time food has gone up with inflation. Double dipping is now the ambition. A bigger cut even adjusted for inflation.

And service has taken a nose dive. Many times I will sit through half a meal with an empty glass or have to go find my server because they delivered the food but no utensils.
