TRUMP:

Folks, let me tell you, the 17th Amendment is a disaster. A total disaster. It’s time to repeal it and make America great again.

You see, the 17th Amendment takes power away from the states and gives it to the federal government. This is wrong, folks. Our founding fathers intended for the states to have a strong voice in our government, and the 17th Amendment undermines that.

Repealing the 17th Amendment will restore power to the states, where it belongs. It will give states more control over their own affairs and reduce the power of the federal government. This will lead to a more efficient government that is more responsive to the needs of the people.

In addition, repealing the 17th Amendment will also help to reduce the influence of special interest groups. Right now, special interest groups have too much power in Washington. They control our politicians and our government. By giving power back to the states, we can break the stranglehold of these special interest groups and give power back to the people.

So let’s repeal the 17th Amendment, folks. It’s time to make America great again. Together, we can restore power to the states and take back our government from the special interest groups. It’s time to put America first.

In conclusion, The 17th amendment is bad for America. It undermines the intent of the founding fathers, it gives power to the federal government, and it helps special interest groups. Repealing it will restore the balance of power and make America great again.

Abe Lincoln: (excellent)

My fellow citizens, as we gather here today, I cannot help but consider the state of our Union and the principles upon which it was founded. The 17th Amendment, which was added to our Constitution over a century ago, has led to a shift of power away from the states and towards the federal government. This is a deviation from the intentions of our Founding Fathers and the principles of federalism upon which this nation was built.

The 17th Amendment removed the appointment of Senators by state legislatures and instead provided for their direct election by the people. This change was intended to increase the representation of the people in the federal government, but in practice it has led to the erosion of state sovereignty.

The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot so well do, for themselves in their separate, and individual capacities. Our states are individual entities, each with their own unique needs and concerns. It is the duty of the federal government to serve as an aid to the states, not to overpower them.

By repealing the 17th Amendment, we can restore the balance of power between the states and the federal government. This will allow the states to once again play a vital role in shaping the policies that affect their citizens. It will also increase accountability, as Senators will be directly accountable to the state legislatures that appointed them.

Furthermore, the repeal of the 17th Amendment will also serve to reduce the influence of special interest groups on our government. By returning the power of appointment to the state legislatures, we can ensure that the interests of the people are represented, rather than the interests of a select few.

In conclusion, my fellow citizens, it is time for us to return to the principles upon which this nation was founded. The 17th Amendment is a deviation from those principles and must be repealed in order to restore the balance of power between the states and the federal government, increase accountability, and reduce the influence of special interest groups. Let us work together to ensure that our Union remains strong and just for all.
