Historic redlining and other racist policies have led to present-day racial and economic segregation and disinvestment in many cities across the United States. Research has shown how neighborhood characteristics and resources are associated with health disparities such as preterm birth and asthma, but most of these studies are limited in scale and overlook many aspects in a neighborhood that are difficult to measure, including dilapidated buildings and crosswalks.
Now, a new study led by Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) and the Center for Antiracist Research (CAR) at Boston University (BU) has utilized panorama digital technology through Google Street View (GSV) to identify these neighborhood characteristics on a national scale and shed light on how they contribute to racial and ethnic disparities in local resources and health outcomes across the US.
Published in the journal JAMA Network Open, the study found that predominantly White neighborhoods had better neighborhood conditions generally associated with good health, such as fewer neglected buildings and multi-family homes, and more greenery than neighborhoods with residents who were primarily Black, of other minority races, or of a variety of races and ethnicities.

Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” program destroyed the black family structure, and resulted in the current black illegitimacy rate > 75%.
It also made black people heavily dependent on the federal government and reliable Democrat voters.
Next week these same morons will bitch about gentrification.
White people better get to work fixin those places up.
More white $$$ needed.
They did a STUDY to arrive at this conclusion? LOL!
Desperately poor white immigrants from Europe flocked to America in the late 1800’s and filled shoddy tenement buildings. However, most kept their tiny apartments neat as a pin and there are many photographs from that era showing immigrant women scrubbing the sidewalk in front of their apartment buildings because they were proud to be in America and wanted their neighborhoods to be as clean and orderly as possible. Compare those photos with 21st century public housing.
Despite being impoverished, struggling to learn the English language, and poor or no education (many could not read and write) they aspired for a better life for their children. They pushed their children to succeed in school and instilled in them a strong work ethic. Most of the children moved into the middle class. Compare with today’s black poor and their attitudes toward education and upward mobility through hard work.
As a student of history, and an observer of modern “culture” I am convinced 98% of “white priviledge” is a strong work ethic and good basic education. Both result from valued passed down by parents who care and set high expectations as well as the individual’s own internal drive to be the best he or she can be. These “white” value have been rejected by many in the black community. Hence the different outcomes. The truth is, most 19th century poor white immigrants lived worse lives than today’s third and fourth generation welfare recipients. In more recent times the refugees from around the world, many who came to the USA with only the shirts on their backs, have progressed farther economically and socially than many black Americans. Their advancement had nothing to do with white privilege and everything to to with hard work and a determination to get ahead no matter the obstacles
That’s a no shit Sherlock study! What a waste of time!!
Fewer dilapidated buildings?
Knock me over with a feather!
Who wants to tell them that most black neighborhoods were once white neighborhoods?
Once again, Whites are demonstrated to be supreme. If blacks want to change their condition, they should seek to emulate what Whites do instead of bitching and moaning about it.
Clean up your act, “Black Community”!!!
Okay, that's the only one I degree with. In these neighborhoods such activity is next to a death sentence.
Now the kids never leave the house but Tic Talk is taking up their time with CCP approval.
Why is it that when certain BIPOCs move into a nice neighborhood that neighborhood eventually becomes the slum these do-gooders bitch about?
I’m in my 70s, and I’ve lived in a lot of places. And that phenomenon is apparent.
Fact: There are certain cultures that have no concept of self-respect or pride of ownership. I guess when one doesn’t work for what one has, but pretty much everything is given to them or provided to them, free of charge, it is not surprising.
White people plant and WATER trees, and they maintain their buildings.
All races and cultures should emulate them.
Home and neighborhood pride, and kicking kids out of the nest at 18/21 to focus on their own productivity, are traits generally held by middle class white folk.
IN addition, middle class neighborhoods, which for the most part are not ‘all white’, are subject to more stringent fines and enforcement against dilapidated, neglected buildings while minority-dominated areas are given a pass.
I dunno about states other than Calif, but I’ve never seen many crosswalks in upper class residential areas - but lots in lower class residential areas. Maybe upper class folks know better to look both ways before crossing the street and don’t need them?
So my husband picking up other people’s litter on our street because he can’t stand to look at it is...racist?
Yes, I already know the answer. White people breathing in and out is racist.
Drive bys are less as well!
What probably is never mentioned is that slumlords are often other blacks. Also it is kind of hard to keep up property when vandalism is a common problem. It is not soccer moms coming to the neighborhood and shooting out windows and digging up plants.
So?
MIGHT IT BE that white people are better socialized, have more civic pride, and that they take better care of their property?
IOW, many (certainly not ALL!) white people CARE ABOUT THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD?
