Adam Schiff and a group of Democrats introduced a proposed constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision, one of the greatest free-speech victories in history.
It’s just a political stunt, of course, as Schiff doesn’t have the votes. But it does reflect the authoritarian outlook of the contemporary left on free expression. From the day the decision came down, 13 years ago this week, Citizens United was a rallying cry for those threatened by unregulated discourse. President Barack Obama infamously, and inaccurately, rebuked the justices during his State of the Union for upholding the First Amendment. Since then, Democrats have regularly blamed the decision for the alleged corrosion of “democracy.”

Why didn’t they propose it then?
It is scary to think that this man was a prosecutor. Imagine the number of innocent people he railroaded into prison.

corporations are not and never have been people. Just because some foot note in case law indicates that they are and deserve the rights of people doesn’t change the fact that a business is a contractual entity, utterly different than a human being and deserving of different rights and responsibilities than humans.
The sort of thinking that a corporation is a person is part of what is wrong in our culture. We need to change that.

Exactly. And a 28th Amendment that limits political speech will invariably be twisted around so badly that street cops will cite it when they try to stifle public accountability.

Thinking the same thing. Also, 5 years ago this would have been “crazy talk”, now it’s voter incentive.

Re #2, these idiots don’t realize the 2nd amendment was put in place to protect the 1st amendment.

The Bill of Rights does not grant rights. They list rights that must be left alone by the government. Those “representatives” should be recalled and then charged with treason.
The people who wrie a corporation’s policy statements and declarations are- TA-DA -people. The corporation writes nothing and speaks nothing. Do people lose their 1st Amendment freedoms by becoming members of corporations?

Democrats keep harping about democracy and yet they have done more to kill it than any party in the country.
Their bait wagon is always loaded with free things until their goal has been met.
They believe in Democracy as the “mandate from the masses” (whoever the hell they are)
