I have been studying consciousness for a long time now and would agree with your points.
I still recommend Julian Jaynes "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" as a wonderful discussion on how to think about the incomprehensible nature of consciousness. We are akin to intestinal bacteria trying to understand the human in whose intestines we live.

The “radio” analogy is one that I heard from Terence McKenna.
While folks tend to focus on his interest in drugs, it is his discussion of philosophical issues that blows me away—the guy was far ahead of his time—and imho will be a name people will remember a thousand years from now—if we survive—like a Plato or Aristotle—that kind of brilliant.
