Everything about Brock Purdy’s rise is implausible.
By now you know his biography: four good years at Iowa State, an excellent college player. The last player selected in the draft, Mr Irrelevant, he was expected to back up Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo at the San Francisco 49ers. He was pushed into the lineup after injuries to Lance and Garoppolo. The Niners’ title hopes were on the brink. But rather than founder, the Niners are better with Purdy at the helm as they prepare to face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday for a place in the NFC championship game.
In his seven games since taking over from Garoppolo, Purdy has thrown 16 touchdown passes, run for a couple more, and thrown just three interceptions. The Niners have outscored their opponents 239-120 with Purdy playing the role of conductor. Confident, poised, accurate, and called Brock, there’s nothing not to like about him.

He's the best QB in the NFL in the last 7 games.
What bits I watched reminded me of Joe Montana in 1981...Joe's 3rd year.
LAST pick of the 2021 draft. Came out of nowhere.
They have a chance to reprise their historic 1981 game with Dallas on Sunday.
I will watch that game.
I hope he shows the Cowboys the door.
Purdy really took it to my Seahawks last weekend.
He’s the real deal.
So are the 49ers.
The remarkable things about Brock Purdy are his apparent humility and faith.
Will watch for his next successes, and i am not an NFL fan.
I am a Rams fan, so I have no love for the 49ers.
However, I am enough of a romantic at heart to root for Brock Purdy personally.
Since I despise the Cowboys more than the ‘9ers, I can root for the Cowboys to lose to Purdy without difficulty.
Everybody is over the moon about Purdy- fact is Kyle Shannahan deserves most of the credit.
Put Purdy on a team with an offensive coaching staff or a team that doesn’t develop QBs such as the NY Jets, Redskins, Bears and he’s nothing.
Shannahan, Reid, Belichick, Pederson- its no coincidence they have a knack for developing great QB’s or getting ordinary QB’s to play above their heads.
I hope Micah Parsons knocks him into next week and the Cowboys keep rolling. Other then that, he seems like a nice guy.
Let’s give credit where credit is due: McCaffrey, Deebo, Kittle, Bosa, Gipson, Shanahan and many others.
Purdy is a key component of a team playing great ball and peaking at the right time. He is not the cause of their success.
I say that not to take anything away from him, but to point out how essential the team is to a complete victory.
Me too! And I’ll be rooting for this guy against Dallas for sure.
They’ve cooled out all the BS a good deal.
That being said, the Baltimore Ravens will remain UNFORGIVEN by me.
Due to some personal circumstances, it now appears that fickle fan that I am will now be a KC Chiefs fan for life.
GO MAHOMES!!!!
He was a great QB at Iowa State.
Last draft pick.
To say this makes me happy is an understatement
It looks to be a well oiled machine of perfect design and construction.
Right now theNiners are playing as a great team.
Of course, football is a team game. (I notice you don’t credit any lineman who REALLY make the difference) But Purdy distributes the ball better than other 49er QBs have. Kittle had more TDs in four games with Purdy, than he’s had in a whole season up to now.
Don’t read too much into the lack of attribution to linemen, I was winging it off the top of my head. If Joe Staley was still on the team, I would have named him.
It’s hard not to love this story. I mean, really, really hard. Rookie, nice polite kid... dead-freakin-last pick in the NFL draft... improbably comes off the bench and plays great, leading his team to victory in game after game. You’d have to be a very jaded cynic (or a Cowboys fan) not to be rooting for this young man.
How can you be a Ram fan and despise the Cowboys? The Cowboys were given birth by Rams executive Tex Schramm. The Rams and Cowboys are sister teams.
I watched the Tom Brady vs Dallas game on Monday night.
The Dallas pass rush against Brady was outstanding on EVERY play.
Unless San Francisco has an above average offensive line and above average running backs, Dallas will win.
Most non-wagering sports sites have set the Cowboy’s chances of winning at about 10%.
All depends on which Dak shows up.
Good Dak or Bad Dak.
With Prescott, you never know.
