I had this same question regarding past leftist revolutions and why they always killed their own.
The answer I got was something like the revolution needs a “vanguard” to achieve victory but they are too doctrinally rigid to be part of the actual running of the communist state.
Eliminating them early allows for a more ‘pragmatic’ approach to governing. (e.g., Stalin abandoned strict communism immediately as the Soviet Union was broke and no one would do anywork.)

Every leftist revolution eventually leads to a society where a select few steals everything and gets filthy rich.
Some members of the “vanguard” like the idea—and some don’t.
The “negative attitude” types soon find themselves declared “enemies of the people” and are dealt with accordingly.
It may not be what Karl Marx wanted, but it is what happens when homo sapiens gets power over others.
