What's the Truth about . . . the Translation of Yam Suf?

That experts have missed the forest for the trees? Or the sea for the fish as it were?

I mean whichever the wording, it's obvious that it had been split already. Maybe all Moses had to do was to point that out, so the People could see it, and go on through finally. The gate's not locked.

If someone wanted to get picky though, there's no "suf" here, just the sea:

Exodus 14:16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

To follow instructions to the letter, to divide the "ים":

י-ם

And then go on dry ground through the midst:

I don't know Hebrew, but I have Langenscheidt's Pocket Hebrew English Dictionary. It translates this Hebrew word as "sea weed, reed, rushes, bulrushes"--when combined with the word yam meaning sea or lake it is translated as the "northwestern part of the Red Sea."
