Italian government decides to transfer SAMP/T SAM battery to Ukraine

According to RID, the Italian government has decided to transfer to Ukraine a SAMP/T anti-aircraft missile system battery capable of shooting down ballistic missiles. The “green light” was given over the past 2-3 days on the instructions of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

It is noted that about two weeks ago, the issue of supplying the SAMP/T battery remained open. Italy has only five SAMP/T batteries in service, and one of them is deployed in Kuwait as part of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

The publication reports that “strong pressure from Washington” helped speed up the decision to transfer the batteries to Ukraine.
