I’m not holding my breath either. What a shame, in a way; in another way, maybe a blessing. Instead of lumbering through periodic reviews of bygone hits like the Stones or the Who, Zeppelin had the sense to call it a day when they lost Bonzo. I like to think that Led Zeppelin went out like James Dean, while their contemporaries are going out like Marlon Brando.
“It” being…?
So’s Bill Nelson.
Just sayin’.
I agree. I was always a huge Zep fan.
And after some "shambolic" reunion efforts, in Page's words, it was great to see them absolutely knock it our of the park at the O2 show and leave the stage for a final time on a high note.
Probably a big reason why Plant didn't want to go on. They buried the Live Aid demon and left on top. Why risk the legacy?
BTW, Robert Plant did have a new release in 2021, “Raise the Roof,” a second collection of covers with Alison Krauss.
I loved the stuff he did with Imelda May.
One thing about Beck. He has such control over the tremolo bridge on his Strat, if I were to close my eyes, I'd think he was playing a bottleneck slide.
“Following the O2 show in November of ‘07, Plant had shown no interest in continuing further with Led Zeppelin, much to Page’s frustration.”
Plant ruined it all. He wanted to his hippie folk music act. Led Zeppelin could have easily put on ten more shows. Just by doing them only in London, New Your, and Las Vegas. They should have. But that’s all over now.
What I would've given to had seen Zep in the States. They should've done a show over here. Sure, they were an English band but, really, it was the United States were they found fame and fortune.
Did anyone mention that they reached out to Beck and he turned down the spot with Pink Floyd when Sid Barrett left?
In 2005 Cream ended it right, They put on 7 final show between London and New York. Led Zeppelin was much bigger and played live longer. So they should have held 12 final shows. Las Vegas / New York / London. Their fan base would have been overjoyed. Zep would have taken home millions.
We both know that conceited Robert Plant ruined this. His folkie and country records are kinda lame. As lame as Mark Knopfler is these days, with his folkie material.
You know nothing about Peter Green.
Your recap from “Wiki” kind of proves it.
A Tribute to Peter Green and his music was held in 2020 - 40 Years after his minor impact - It was attended by:
Billy Gibbons(ZZ Top)David Gilmour(Pink Floyd)Jonny Lang, Andy Fairweather Low, John Mayall, Christine McVie, Zak Starkey, Steven Tyler(Aerosmith),Bill Wyman(Rolling Stones) Noel Gallagher(Oasis),Pete Townshend(The Who), Neil Finn, Kirk Hammett(Metallica) and more.
Green’s song Black Magic Woman, launched Santana. Carlos Santana invited Green to play it with him at Santana’s RR HOF induction.
Eric Clapton covers 2 Peter Green songs on one of his last albums.
Do better next time.
I think you misunderstood. I wasn’t talking about guitar ability. I was talking about song creation. He wasn’t as good as Page and Clapton in that way. I even read an interview with him many years ago, where he basically said the same thing about that. He seemed like a very nice guy.
Fair enough. You are correct He wasn’t that much of a “song” writer. He wrote music but songs not so much. Two very different things. Which is why the biggest praises is coming from musicians
The way I heard it, the members of Floyd wanted to ask Beck to join, but nobody had the guts.
I’m not going to do your homework for you. LOL
The world benefited from Becks decision, we ended up with great music from 2 sources instead of one.
Whatever. Have no clue about what you are alluding to, but have no doubt I am more informed about zeppelin’s story.
“Have no clue about what you are alluding to”
I know! That’s what I’ve patiently been trying to explain to you. LOL
