If you live in the southern half of the U.S. and own your home, you might ought to consider installing solar.

Most of the power in my home doesn't come through the utility's meter. This is because I pull less than 20% of the power I need from the grid (most of the power I need is produced by my own system).

And I've set my inverters to not export excess power to the grid. The end result means the utility's meter doesn't see how much power I create or how much I consume. It sees only the little bit of power I pull from the grid.
