I've heard of him. My wife and I are big country fans and went to his earlier concerts back in the early to mid 2000s, when he was starting to get popular. He put on a good show.

His recent songs have gotten too bland for my taste but his earlier hits were pretty good, like "Where The Blacktop Ends" and "Raining On Sunday." He has had a pretty impressive run of Top 10 country hits during his career.

This story does seem a little contrived however, if he was surrounded by bodyguards, why didn't one of them pick up the tab?
