Was there ever a real reason for Gowdy to skedaddle so quickly out of the House?

I can’t recall a good stated reason other than he wanted to be involved in law enforcement side if I recall but I could be wrong. Many speculated here that he would be a special prosecutor or some such. But he is at Fox News. Probably on some high paying boards or something.
