What is interesting is that WE define “prophet” as simply foretelling the future.

It seems that Scripture has a different definition.

Revelation 19:10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Also to consider is that the OT prophets warned Israel that if they didn’t repent and turn back to God, that God would bring judgment. That is what Jonathan Cahn is doing so in that sense, he is fulfilling the role of a prophet.

I recall one time, sometime back, he did try predicting something, and that fell flat. It did not happen. And for that some people completely turned on him.

However, he came clean, admitted he did it in his own strength and repented of it. To the best of my knowledge, he has not tried anything like that again. Matter of fact, he seems to go out of his way to make it clear that he is not trying to foretell events any more even though he is still calling people to repentance and faith in Christ.

He is the singularly more direct and outspoken pastor who is calling sin out that we have seen in a long time.

God will always raise up a man for the job when the others fall away in their duty.

One of the ones who has surprised me, quite frankly, was John McArthur with his bold stand against Newsom’s tyranny, and the open letter he sent to Newsom calling on him to repent and turn to God.

“If you repent”

Well said. A prophet is a person who “predicts” that course A will lead to result B.

Course C will lead to result D.

When Summers predicted that the American Recovery Act would lead to inflation which would lead to the Fed raising interest rates which would lead to poor economic growth he was a prophet. His prophecy was based on the part of economics that Keynes, Chicago School and Austrians all agree on.

When Moynihan (then Democrat) predicted that destruction of the two parent family would lead to crime and many other problems he was a prophet. Most Democrats at that time (LBJ, Hubert Humphrey, Scoop Jackson Democrats) agreed with Moynihan. The only difference was that they were chicken to push that position unpopular with at that time a small faction of Democrats.

Thus another facet of a prophet is to speak the unpopular truth.
